The Inspectorate of Quang Ngai Province’s Department of Science and Technology carried out in February 2012 two inspections of 30 enterprises in the areas of Standards-Metrology-Quality and product labeling. The inspectors discovered violations at two enterprises and fined them 3 million VND.
Most of the inspected enterprises were found to have strictly followed regulations on standards, quality and product labeling, provided standard and quality information on products’ package. Their products were properly labeled and producers’ documents were well kept.
However, some enterprises committed violations in terms of labeling; specifically, their products’ labels provided misleading information about the contents’ quantity. The inspection team examined 29 prepackaged boxes containing powdered milk, biscuits, dried beef, beer, soft drinks, sausages and dried bananas; 10 of them were found to fail to meet the requirement on metrology; specifically, two of the boxes contained much less quantity of goods than that written on the package. The inspection team ordered a temporary suspension of the circulation of the infringed products and requested the enterprises to re-quantify the contents as regulated. At the same time, the team imposed administrative sanction on the two violating enterprises with the total amount of 3 million VND.
Besides, following the Letter No. 62/CD-BKHCN of the Ministry of Science and Technology on stepping up efforts to inspect and examine gasoline related metrology and quality issues throughout the country, the Department’s inspectors also carried out an inspection of 12 enterprises doing gas and oil business. They collected 10 gas samples for quality testing. Based on the results of the test, the inspectors would make recommendations for further handling.
